Este próximo sábado 13 estrenamos en ATID la obra de teatro Potestad, de Pavlosky. La obra será interpretada por Héctor Grimberg y Tali Reshef, esta última coordinadora del grupo de teatro de la Comunidad. El evento empezará a las 21:45h y tiene un precio de 10€, que incluye la obra de teatro, un pica-pica posterior y una copa.

Ya tenéis a vuestra disposición un nuevo número de la revista cultural judía Mozaika. Esta revista, nacida el año pasado, busca profundizar en temáticas relacionadas con el Judaísmo, ya sean festividades, persoanlidades, hechos históricos… desde diferentes campos de conocimiento. En cada edición se elige un tema sobre el cual girarán las diferentes secciones de la revista. En este último caso es la renovación, entendiendo esta como un leitmotiv continuo en la historia de nuestra religión. Esperamos que sea de vuestro agrado. In this new phase of ATID one more project is on the way: revitalizing the Library.

We all look forward to see that books circulate within the community, that we read and comment what we learn and that this becomes an important habit.

A dedicated group is in charge of the inventory, classification and presentation of all the material that we have been receiving through the years. Please let us know if you would like to help in this project.

With this effort we hope to give the literary credit we deserve as Jews, being referred to as “People of the Book”.

ATID was born 15 years ago with the hope to be a progressive choice, offering a new way of understanding and living Judaism. An open vision, equalitarian, involved in the society, with a special emphasis on the youth. We are proud of our youth movement with more than 80 members. ATID means future, and we have always focused our hopes on it with an educational program.     

Our new headquarters will encompass a space for religious, cultural, social, educational and Zionist activities. This is an open door and a  reference for the development of Progressive Judaism in Barcelona and in Spain.   

At its early stages the few families which created ATID, celebrated religious services in the living rooms of their homes and from then on dreamed of a space to start a synagogue. More than ten years ago ATID started functioning in a storefront location and, thanks to the efforts of many people, the basic services of a Jewish community could be offered, and its members received the support they needed in each moment of their lives. 

Obviously with our growth, the space became smaller, representing a limitation to the development of the wide range of activities we had planned. 

Today, with the opening of a new ATID synagogue we have made a major leap that marks a new phase in our Jewish life in Barcelona.    
 

The TREE of LIFE PROJECT    

In December 2009 we moved to a small three stories townhouse with a small garden in the uppermost part of town. There was great enthusiasm with this project, although it represented a large financial challenge for the community, counting only with contributions from members and friends. The project called for an enormous change involving structures, compliance with codes and regulations, adapting the spaces, restoration of the building interiors, with a construction plan and budget very high for a community of 100 families. 

In our new space the synagogue is on the ground floor, with natural light. The outdoors space serves for a variety of activities, for all ages. For Tu Bishvat a small olive tree was planted! Upstairs there are the library, two offices and a multiuse room for classes, coffee, etc … And on the lower level there is the new youth lounge with two very large classrooms.   

As you can see, an enormous change! A true window of opportunities for our community’s future.   Nonetheless, we must continue our fund raising efforts as we still have outstanding balance to this construction as well as numerous other financial needs in order to continue to grow and offer our Jewish services.  

 This is why we have embarked on our “Tree of Life” Project Campaign. 
Each leaf, rock or branch on this tree will bear the name of the person who gives a donation, or can be used to commemorate a joyous event or remembrance of a loved one.   The tree of life art symbolizes Jewish support around the world and in our community.  This is a lasting legacy of your tzedakah.
