Interview to David Yabo

This week, as news on our website, we have with us David Yabo (Bilbao, 1984), who has starred in the triple somersault to change the tranquility of Madrid for a life at the limit 20 kilometers south of Tel Aviv, pending every moment of the sirens announcing the Hamas missiles to take refuge in a bunker.

When I look for David Yabo in google, I find public diplomacy projects in congresses and social networks, interviews in Spanish-language media and articles published in different media among other things. Who David Yabo?

David Yabo does not know who he is. I have not had enough time to think about that.

I could define myself as a Freelance, a boy for everything and who aims at everything, except to dance. But perhaps the best definition would be that of a Jewish conservative and an Israeli liberal. Dedicated in body and soul to the defense of Israel against those who defame us and question our existence. Married and with two cats that advocates a two-state solution and avoid the disappearance of the only Jewish state. With desire to do more and know even more. I think now.

Explain the reasons of your Aliya to Israel.

Aliya, as stipulated in the Law of Return, is a right of every Jew. I would add besides that it is a necessity for the soul. A miracle in our days whereby every morning when we woke up we should scream shehejeyanu. It is not simply a policy of immigration, or of winning consecutively another battle more to the demographic war, or change of scene Even whoever has never considered making aliyah, the fact that we have that Right means that we still maintain sovereignty in our ancestral homeland.

Everyone makes aliyah for very different reasons; persecution, economic problems, Judeophobia, adventure, love ... I did it under a Zionist spirit and if I was not married I would have liked to Live a Kibbutz. Many still believe that I made aliyah out of love because it coincided the same month as I married my husband - he was born in Israel - but no. Precisely for wanting more to him than to myself is the reason why we live today in the diaspora, although the term that stands out employ be the chord with my feeling; exile.

What is Israel for you?

When we talk about Israel, we think of a country in the Middle East, surrounded by enemies, sand, desert, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, beaches, missiles, conflict or religion. But rarely when speaks of Israel is thought of nonconformity and resistance. In the stubbornness of a people who it resists to disappear and decides to go against the current, opposing more than a hundred countries.

When I think what Israel is for me and its population, its past, present its future, I think of a stiff-necked town. Without that concept Israel today would not exist.

I see that what you do is spread everything you can, the reality of Israel, explaining all good things (tourism, projects ...), and denying many stereotypes.

Tell us a little about the reason for this initiative. As a Jew, it is impossible for me not to react to any defamation against the Jewish State. HE can criticize Israel and criticize Israel, but at the moment when someone questions its existence must skip all our alarms and study the aforementioned individual. Most likely is that he does not know what he is talking about, as is usually the case in most cases, and in that aspect can be made to reason by explaining that his argument is meaningless, or that It is based on a prejudice and not a reality. When that happens in many cases, it can be Hold a debate with them and exchange opinions. Our job is not to convince them but to explain to them what they are wrong about.

What is Hasbara?

Hasbara comes from the Hebrew verb lehasbir, explain. Who does Hasbara is explaining or clarifying the policies of the State of Israel from an apolitical point of view and always, what most important and fundamental pillar of the hasbara, through tests and data. It can not explain this or that thing through slogans and pretty phrases, or even by a simple photography, but through graphics, data, tests and check again and again said information. It is also very important to go to official sources before taking for granted some kind of information. Hasbara also requires self-criticism and accept the idea that the State of Israel is not perfect, as any country has failures. Accept such failures and explain the reason for such failures. As I explained earlier, hasbara is not to convince anyone, but explain and clarify an erroneous data against Israel.

Any project in the short or long term?

Many projects, many, little funding. Very little. While we are dedicated to we will do it altruistically, this being one of the fundamental pillars of this matter, when it comes to wanting to carry out more considerable projects, a certain financing. For example, want to organize a conference with non-Jewish Israelis as for example, Arab-Christians and Arab-Muslims, Druze, Baha'is, Circassians, Bedouins, etc. to explain their day to day as a minority population in the Jewish state and dispel prejudices of anti-Semitic groups like the BDS, which accuse Israel of being a state of apartheid This type of company carries high costs, such as travel, hotels, subsistence and all the approach that supposes.

However, there are other projects, and at a very low cost, but it is necessary to everyone's participation. As stubborn people we are, but above all as a people united that we still are in spite of everything, now more than ever we must accept that 'everything Jew is responsible for one another '(Sanhedrin 27:72)
