Parashat Terumah

Exodus 25:1-27:19

In this parashah we read the precise description of the construction of the Tabernacle. Nothing is left to chance: the materials, the arrangement, the measurements, everything seems to be under control. It is about the construction of a sacred space that in turn will contain another even more sacred space from where they will be able to communicate with God.

For the construction of such a place they use, among other things, acacia wood. Why acacia wood and not another? Because, according to our sages, acacia does not bear fruit, so they would not disturb the natural cycle by building it with acacia. And where did they get so much acacia wood? Jacob planted them on his way to Egypt, so that future generations would benefit from it. With such respect for the world that surrounds us and always thinking about the legacy we leave behind, let us continue building the sacred space that welcomes us and inspires us to continue building a better world fair and respectful.
