Reenterrament de restes de Tàrrega

The Israelite Community of Barcelona reported that on February 21, the remains of 85 individuals from the old Tárrega cemetery were buried.

Let us remember that in 2007 two members of our community, Dominique Tomasov and David Stoleru, formed the Heritage Commission of the Jewish communities proposed to redirect the treatment of the Jewish necropolises taking into account that they are sacred precincts that had to be abandoned by force. During construction works that year, the cemeteries of Toledo and Tárrega were found and it was the intention that the town councils inform the nearest Jewish community or the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain to jointly decide how to proceed.

In both cases, not without a number of difficulties, it was possible to rebury Toledo's remains in the school yard where work was being done. And the remains of 155 targarines were buried at the CIB site in Collserolla. It remained to do the same with almost a hundred more people who were found in later phases of the work and who, after being studied following archeology protocols, were stored. Finally, the CIB, in an agreement with the General Directorate of Heritage of the GC, has been able to guarantee his reburial in Collserola.

Our sincere recognition to the CIB for having assumed this responsibility towards our ancestors. We are very proud to have participated in this process. Together we can build a path of respect for religious traditions to strengthen our diverse society.

In Barcelona, ​​during the construction of the Olympic Shooting Range in 1948, the Jewish cemetery was built and the remains of 171 individuals are still waiting in boxes. Let us trust that they will soon be able to recover their eternal rest.
