Visit to the MNAC
The Atid Community offered its members a visit to the MNAC, guided by an art historian. On Sunday, April 7, we met at the museum to tour the exhibition "The Lost Mirror."
As Lluís Plaza i Font explained to us, these paintings had the purpose of showing the "bad Christians" embodied by the Jews.
The works represent Jews in Gothic altarpieces, with scenes of desecration of wafers, preachers in synagogues, accusations, baptisms, and also of Jesus as a Jew. A tendency of the Middle Ages, in sculpture as well as in painting, was to represent "the synagogue" as a blindfolded character, blind to the acceptance of Jesus as the Messiah.
The visit concluded with a vermouth in the beautiful oval room of this spectacular museum.
